The Polar Bears have become more than a class by now - we’ve become almost a family. Like a real family, we’ve had our differences and fights. We’ve laughed and cried together; we’ve celebrated our successes and comforted

each other through our disappointments. We’ve taken in new family members through the year and said good-bye to some old ones. We’ve watched each other grow.

And now, as is often the case with families, it’s time for us to go in different directions. I’ll stay here to help the next group of students. You’ll go to a middle school where you’ll meet new friends, learn from exciting teachers, and begin the next step in your journey toward adulthood. That's how it should be. I hope that on your journey you’ll stop at times to reflect on some lessons you’ve learned from the PB family.

Being a Polar Bear has more to do with what’s inside you, with what’s in your heart, rather than with what class you happen to be in or what school you attend. As a Polar Bear, you’ve learned how to earn respect and trust from adults. You’ve learned that sometimes it’s hard to tell the truth, but, still, no matter how difficult, it’s the right thing to do and usually helps things along. You’ve learned that you must do your best to be really successful. These lessons have helped you to become part of a role-model class for the school. Please remember to practice these lessons as you grow to an adult.

I care about you and will certainly miss you. But I’m also proud of you and want you to grow and learn and become adults - you can’t do that here anymore. It’s time for you to go. As you know, once you’re a Polar Bear, you’re always a Polar Bear. Go out on your own and prove to the world what a Polar Bear can do. I will stay here waiting to hear about your journey. See you later!
